To Delete the Record of Web Sites Visited from Your Computer:

Al-Anon is an anonymous and confidential program.  Windows keeps a record of all web pages that are visited on your computer. If you wish to clear the record from your computer of having visited the Al-Anon web site, the following information may help you to do so.

In general, there are two things that must be done to remove evidence of browsing: the site must be removed from the history list, AND the "cache" must be cleared.  The cache has copies of all the pages that were visited recently.  It is more difficult for someone to access than the history list, but it can be accessed and will provide a record of pages visited.

PLEASE NOTE: If you delete the records of all pages visited during a particular time period from your computer, another person may realize that the records have been deleted.  If you need to provide a reason for deleting the history records it is true to say that deleting these temporary history files makes your computer operate faster and use less disk space.

Suggestions on how to clear your computer’s history and/or cache follows. Please remember, we are not Internet experts.  Please refer to your software "Help" menu or other technical support if you need more information.

How to clear your computer's history of web pages you have visited

(If your computer uses a browser other than the following, please refer to your browser’s help files for information.)

For Windows 95 and higher:

  1. On the Internet Explorer toolbar, click the tab or icon marked “History” (this may appear as an icon of an arrow and a clock.)
  2. A history of web pages visited will appear on the left.
  3. Highlight the names of pages you wish to remove from the history by clicking once on the page. Than press the delete key on your keyboard.  The computer will ask if you are sure you want to do this. Press “Yes.”
  4. Repeat step 3 above for each page you wish to delete.
  5. Exit your Internet browser.

  1. To clear ALL the history, follow steps 1 and 2 above. Then, depending on your computer, either:

A)    Click on the button that says “Clear History,” or “clearcomputer.” The computer will ask if you are sure you want to do this. Press “Yes.”  OR, for other computers:
